
Rui Vieira’s work blends cinematic imagery with emotional storytelling. His films balance strong visuals with narrative clarity, combining precision with raw human energy and a touch of subtle humour. His casting, timing and sense of rhythm give his work a distinct tone.
Born in the Azores, Rui studied Communication Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He began his career as a creative director in Lisbon, New York and Amsterdam before focusing fully on film and photography and joining Playground as a director.
His reel includes campaigns for IKEA, Vodafone, NOS, Disney, EDP, the Portuguese Football Federation, Super Bock and Sagres. He has also collaborated with artists like Orelha Negra, Fred, Xinobi, Vaarwell and Carminho, and contributed to cultural projects such as Motelx and the official film for Évora’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2027.
Rui was named Director of the Year in 2018 and Photographer of the Year in 2020 by Clube da Criatividade de Portugal. He lives and works between Amsterdam and Lisbon.
